Contact Roane County Property Records Offices

This Is Not a Government Office or Records Custodian. This guide cannot retrieve or certify an official record, conduct a title search, or change an assessment. Direct record requests to the office that maintains the file. For emergencies, dial 911. If you believe you are being stalked or harassed, contact local police.

Looking for a Specific Record?

Choose the custodian based on the record you need. Roane County offices are located at the courthouse, 200 Main Street, Spencer, WV 25276. The research directory did not state public counter hours, so check with the office before traveling.

  • Assessment roll, owner listing, parcel class, or appraised value: contact Roane County Assessor Emily C. Westfall at 304-927-3020, fax 304-927-4499.
  • Deeds, deed of trust, liens, releases, plats, and other recorded instruments: contact Roane County Clerk Sena McDonald at 304-927-2860, fax 304-927-2489, or roanecounty@wvsos.com.
  • Tax tickets and amounts due: contact Roane County Sheriff/County Collections. The State Auditor also provides a County Collections portal for delinquent land.
  • Assessment search and parcel mapping: use the state assessment system and parcel viewer as starting points.
  • Records not available online: make a specific request under the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code ยง29B-1-3, to the office that holds the record.

A FOIA request should identify the record or category, date range, parcel or owner when relevant, preferred format, and a way to receive the response. West Virginia law calls for a response as soon as practicable and no later than five days, excluding weekends and legal holidays. The custodian may charge actual reproduction costs, but not search or retrieval fees under the state statute.
